A few weeks ago, the South Carolina Stingrays held an open contest for designers to submit their ideas for a 25th anniversary logo to celebrate as many years in the league. I’m not usually a big fan of design contests, but being a lifelong resident of the Charleston area and having attended many games throughout my lifetime, I thought it might be a fun little project to tackle in my free time. I took a little more liberal approach and used actual stingray forms to create the prominent “25” in the design. I really like the movement in those objects and how they seem to work together from both a visual and conceptual standpoint. Unfortunately, due to the break from the Stingrays traditional stingray form used within their current logo, this submission did not make it to the final stages of the contest. All good though, it was a fun project and I think they will end up with a nice design by the looks of some of the finalists.

A little more information about the contest can be found here.
